Yes, we provide 10GIG over copper cabling on our CX4 XENPAK and X2 10GIG trancievers:

Hope this helps. Please give this post a quick rating ;)

Brad - Well done ;)

When I read the post I assumed the question meant to support 10gig over CAT6 or CAT7 cabling.

So does Cisco have a 10gig RJ45 port?

I would be interested in why someone would use a CX4 XENPAK when they could accomplish the same thing with fiber (and not be limited by 49').

Thanks!

Right, there is no RJ45 10GIG port.

My guess for the reason would probably be cost. If you have the server in close proximity to the switch it might be a lot cheaper to buy CX4 NICs and just run some copper cables over a few racks to the switch.

But you are right, I dont see a lot of CX4 out there, most people just choose to use fiber.

Hope this helps. Please give this post a quick rating ;)

Hi,

A CX4 is more than 3 times cheaper than an SR. If you have a lot of 10G in relatively close proximity then there's a significant saving to be had.

Andrew.

Is 10G over UTP on the road map for the 6500 and if so when can we expect to see the modules?
