Cordless Phones

Hi - we are a small county hospital implementing a new Cisco VOIP project. Currently analog phones are the norm and the nursing stations utilize cordless phones somewhat. Without going to full blow wireless and getting new WAPs and wireless phones - what would be the best options for giving them some type of cordless communication. One option we have is to leave an analog connection so they can utilize an analog cordless phone. The other option I can think of is a wireless headset but that wouldn't allow them to make calls I assume. Does anyone have any other thoughts or suggestions?

Hi,

Cisco makes two models of VoIP wireless phones, the 7920 and the 7921, the latter is more recent, has a larger screen, support speakerphone and push-to-talk. Neither one supports wireless headsets. Cisco recommends that you use Cisco WAP for these phones for reason their guaranteed to provide ne necessary QoS.

Of course you are not limited to Cisco models. You can use other makers native VoIP wireless phones, and of course the traditional analog ones will work as well, using a so-called FXS port either in the router on with a device called ATA.

Hope this helps, if so please rate post

Take a look at SpectraLink. They offer a non-802.11 wireless phone option which works well in our hospital, albeit a vet hospital. ;)

Probably a bit more than a traditional cordless set, but the roaming functionality is pretty good. Multiple base stations allow for good range.

You'd be looking at their Link or DECT product, not NetLink (which is 802.11).

Also, don't forget Plantronics cordless headsets. Some of the actually have little keypads that you can use. You still need a automatic lifter, but it should do the job.
