Quick answer :

(1)There is no default password configured on any cisco router, except if its shipped with SDM preconfigured.

(2)Yes the username and password can be changed anytime conditioned that you are the authorized user.

JD

(1) that is the case

(2) what command does the change of username cisco

Hi

If you can post ur config then I can help you more b'coz the below config is valid only when the router is authenticating users locally. If its using seperate server, then u can mess up with the config.

Telnet the router

Router>enable

Password:

Router#config t

Router(config)#username cisc0 password cisco

HI JD

maybe i did not explain myself well

i know ho to create a new user and set privileges and i know i con set a new user as an level 15 privileged user and remove the cisco user.

I'm just worried if this might cause any problem

so that's why i'm asking if i can rename the user cisco

thanks and regards

Hi

Thats what I am saying. The "username" command will create another user "cisc0".Once you have create that, you can negate the "cisco" username command.

It will not override your existing command, instead a new user with username cisco0 will be created.

Am I explaining myself clear?

Regards

JD
