I am newbie asking for a primer on how to implement a 1721 installed with the latest K9 IOS as a Firewall.
Specifically, are there any good white papers or other literature that can instruct me on the details of using 1721 in place if a PIX?
This for a home application and not commercial.
I want to eliminate my consumer grade broadband router while honing my IOS security/firewall skills.
I have Verizon FiOS, so I have 100mb Ethernet inbound and no DSL or Cable modem between me and the Internet.
The 1721 will connect and log into VZ network via PPOE.
I do not have the router online as of yet, as I want to get the FW up and running at the same time I install the router.
Any Help, thoughts, comments, assistance, examples of configs, links to White Paper or other resources are greatly appreciated.

Cisco IOS Firewall offers a threat defense foundation to deploy secure access policies at all network interfaces: Internet perimeter, remote-site connectivity, business-partner access, and telecommuter connections.
Application inspection and control builds on the existing stateful inspection infrastructure to offer comprehensive protection for industry-standard services, as well as a framework to configure custom protocol support to meet business requirements.
Improvements to Cisco IOS Software's Zone-Based Policy Firewall provide innovative control capabilities for Instant Messaging and Peer-to-Peer applications, and granular application-level control for HTTP traffic, as well as firewall policy bandwidth-shaping and session limits.
Performance enhancements bring Cisco IOS Firewall connection capacities and throughput capabilities in line with business requirements to integrate network threat defense capabilities with other router features such as NAT, VPN, QoS, and dynamic routing:
