Can I use special characters such as ! and @ when specifying a pre-shared key for a PIX and ASA?
Thanks

No, you cannot use special characters !
Specifies the authentication pre-shared key. Use any combination of alphanumeric characters up to 128 bytes. This pre-shared key must be identical at both peers.

I recently used the @ character in a L2L tunnel between a ASA with software 7.2(1) and a 2611XM with software version 12.4, so it is definitly possible to use other characters than alphanumeric characters.
Please rate if the posts helps!

I have this error on a SA520.
Empty space, ' and " characters are not supported for this field.
is there a way around it or do i just have to take it out from the key?
the key has ' and " in it.

Yes, ASA supports special characters in pre-shared-key except '?' for obvious reasons. Hope this helps.
