Hello:

Gotta start by saying, I'm new at this, so please indulge me.

The following is the current version of MY ASA/IPS software:

Platform: ASA-SSM-20

Build Version: 5.1(1)S205.0

Signature Update S205.0 2005-11-30

Os Version: 2.4.26-IDS-smp-bigphys

My question is that I thought I heard in class that there was a 6.0 version, if not, I wanted to know what updates do I need for my current version and if I can download them directly to the module from Cisco site.

There are signature updates that you can get for that version. And yes, there is version 6.X. If you have a contract you should be able to download the updates from this link:

http://www.cisco.com/kobayashi/sw-center/ciscosecure/ids/crypto/
