1GB interface on a Cat 6509

I recently connected a 1GB interface card on a Server to a

SFM-capable 48 port 10/100/1000mb RJ45 WS-X6548-GE-TX on a Cat6509 running 12.2(18)SXF4 but it just refused to come up.

I tried a combination of speeds and duplex but it still did not work.

Do I need something extra, as all i did was plug in a Cat5 cable from switch port to server NIC port.

Please help. How can I get this working?

Thanks

Is there any wiring closet between devices ?

If so, try to connect directly, (if possible).

If not, try to change the way it goes from the 6509 closet to server closet.

Sy, for stupid questio, but did u perform a shut/no shut to the interface ?

If u perform a show inter status | inc G x/x, what it shows?

Hope it helps,

Petr?nio

Yes, we did a no shut and shut and this ports used are ports that has been used to connect devices and are known to work. In fact the device is working as at now but at 100MB.

The show interface shows it as up/up but not at 1000MB.

Thanks

Did you try a straight thru cable . You also need 4 good pairs in the patch cable as gig uses all 8 wires to run that speed otherwise it will come up as 100 meg.

Yes we are using straight cables. So please is there a documentation to support what you have just said about the 8 wires as against the 4 wires. I wll try and find out how many wires there are in the cat 5 cable we have?

Thanks
