I'm in the process of setting up two APs (new, both running 12.3(8)), one as a root and the other as a repeater. This part has gone without any problems, and the signal strength is good between the two via the linktest.
The problem is that the repeater rarely hands out a DHCP address, although it will occasionally. The host always hands out an IP address. This even happens when all security is disabled.

I have seen such issues too. I would suggest that, you use the parent AP to give DHCP addresses to clients.

Thanks for the suggestion, but there was a bug on the firmware. I just downgraded the IOS, and the system is working now.
