SNMP operation to device failed - WCS and WLC 4402

Running into an issue changing the name and location on AP's.

I am in the process of converting many IOS based 1242AG and 1231G AP's to LWAPP. I am using the upgrade tool and images for each.

After LWAPP is loaded they reboot and grab DHCP IP address, then find the controller and register. Controller then upgrades them, or downloads another LWAPP image to them I guess. After that they reboot one more time.

At this point after they reboot they are registered or seen by both WCS and the WLC for their area. All of it works like a charm.

However the AP name at this point is based off of the MAC address I believe. So I go into WCS find the AP and edit the name. I then apply it and I get:

Error:

SNMP Operation to device failed: Attempt to set conflicting attribute value.

I say OK to the error and go back to WCS and view my AP's. The name appears changed in WCS, and on the WLC.

But I do notice that in WCS when you edit the AP, it says:

**Configuration is different on the Device**

Currently running the following versions:

WCS on Windows Server 2003: 4.0.97.0

WLC 4402: 4.0.216.0

Access Point:

S/W Version 4.0.216.0

Boot Version 12.3.2.4

IOS Version 12.3(11)JA3

Mini IOS Version 3.0.51.0

Thought I would ask here before bothering TAC about it.

Thanks in advance for any info provided.

I have this problem too.

The only other time I've encountered this issue, what helped was ensuring that the WLC and WCS were on the same version. If that doesn't alleviate your problem, this may be worth "bothering TAC about". :-)

Good Luck.
