Hi
I am planning to upgrade our 515E to 7.x code. Which is the most stable version available for PIX 515E?
Do I need an Activation key after upgrade?
Thanks
Syed

hello,
activiation key is not required to be re-entered after you upgrade. well atleast it didn't in my case.
as for the most stable version i believe it is 7.2, but you cannot directly upgrade to 7.2 from 6.3(if that's what you are running) you first need to upgrade to 7 and then move onwards.
HTH, please rate it.

Hi, where did you get this information from ?
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_tech_note09186a00804708d8.shtml (PIX 500 Security Appliance 6.x to 7.x Software Upgrade Procedure) doesn't state anything like that.
Thanks

Nevermind, I've found it. It is correct, you need 7.0 first.

You ARE able to upgrade from 6.3 to to 7.2 without jumping through multiple releases. I too was concerned about the documentation from Cisco that is only mentioned 7.0 so I cleared it with a Cisco Engineer. I have successfully done it on our 515Es, 525, and 535 with no problems. Just to be on the safe side you may want to run the upgrade with your existing config on a spare pix to take note of the configuration changes.

No spare pix here, this one will be cowboy style :-)
