DLUs required for a VG224 and VG248

Hi Experts

Hopefully a quick question! Within the CallManager 5.x model, how many devices license units are required for a VG224 and VG248 respectively? The ATA186 is listed as 2DLUs within the documentation, but I cannot find anything about requirements for DLUs for the VG2XX boxes. Given that the ATAs need DLUs, it is not a total leap of faith to believe that the VG2XXs would require DLUs!

Does anyone know? If you do, could you let me know?

Many thanks

Marc

Hi Marc,

This question has come up a couple of times here with the answer being no the VG's do not consume DLU's. I have yet to see this in any Cisco documentation though. If you read between the lines it would seem that this is the correct answer;

Here is an excellent doc that shows the DLU's for everything but the kitchen sink (no mention of VG's);

Licensing

Application and phone software licenses are enforced. The system manages the maximum number of devices that can be provisioned.

Each device (Cisco Unified IP phones, third-party devices, and video devices) provisioned in the system corresponds to a number of device license units (DLUs), depending on its capabilities; the total number of units is managed in Cisco Unified CallManager to determine capacity.

DLUs must be purchased to cover the number of devices connected to Cisco Unified CallManager.

Third-party SIP devices require DLUs for operation with Cisco Unified CallManager.

From this doc;

Here is a thread from November of last year that asks/answers this exact question. It indicates that no DLU's are required :)

Hope this helps! I guess we could always fire off an email to licensing@cisco.com

Thanks Rob

Much appreciated. If only they made this licensing model a little clearer!!! Too much to ask I know.

U dont need DLUs for VG224 and VG248. To confirm the same when you go to Licensing Calculator and check for the Units required for VGC Phone (Used for VG 248) and Analog Phones (Used for VG224). Since the license calculator lists the required license unit to be 0, it does not need a DLU. The reason for this can only be answered by the Techincal marketing team from the Business Unit as they decide on the Unit requirement per device. Also, AFAIK, the Unit requirement is the same as it was with 4.x system where it used to be a Paper License and now it is a Flex-M Licensing.

Hope this helps
