Permitting TFTP Through an ASA5520

Hi,

here's the scenario ... I need to upgrade a remote site router's IOS code using TFTP. The remote site router has a VPN tunnel connecting to a central firewall ASA 5520. The TFTP server is located on the inside interface of the firewall.

There is no outside or inside ACL on the router.

My questions are:

1. Do I need to do a static (inside, outside) statement for the TFTP server?

2. Must the transfer go through the VPN tunnel or simply via the outside interfaces of both the router and firewall?

3. Since the copy tftp flash command is issued on the router, is it safe to say that the router initiates the session rather than the TFTP server? In which case I must allow the port access only on the outside access list of the firewall, correct?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

I was able to find the solution on a forum exchange back in 2005.

It was simply applying this command:

ip tftp source-interface

and this allows the TFTP to go via the VPN tunnel.
