keepalives on a 3845

I have a 3845. Interface Gig0/0. Everytime I boot up the router the interface is up/up, but there is no cable attached. I enter the command keepalives 10 and the interface goes down.

I save my running config to startup. I verify, in my start-up, that keepalives are set. everytime I boot up my router that interface boots up with no keepalives set.

Any ideas why this interface is booting up without keepalives?

Thanks that helped.

One note I upgraded my ios to one of the fixed ones 12.4(12a), and it still is happening. I will try another ios.

Jeff

12.4(12a) should have been fixed. Bear in mind that "keepalive 10" is the default and would therefore not show up int the configuration. Can you provide the output of "show interface" for that specific interface after the upgrade to 12.4(12a)

Thanks,
