ITz simply for a basic configuration, find the configuration below, b4 that you u need to connect the console cable between ur PC(on the serial port(com port) & the console port(located mostly back side of the Router/Switch), then change the Com port settingz in the Hyper Terminal in ur PC.
Bits Per second : 9600
Data bits : 8
Parity : None
Stop bits : 1
Flow control : None
then once ur done, then you will take in the Router/Switch Prompt, then go head with the configuration
eg.
router>enable
router#configure terminal
router(config)#line vty 0 4
router(config-line)#password
router(config-line)#login
router(config-line)exit
router(config)#enable secret
router(config)#interface ethernet 0
router(config-if)#ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
router(config-if)#exit or press Ctrl+Z
router#
now u have done the basic configuration & juz plug in the router in to ur network & start login.
where line vty 0 4 is the telnet interface
