Hi Peter

Assuming you are using IOS on the switch

1) sh mac-address-table int "interface"

eg sh mac-address-table int gi8/8

Output would look something like

SZ-JFH-F00-DTE1#sh mac-address-table int gi8/8

Legend: * - primary entry

age - seconds since last seen

n/a - not available

vlan mac address type learn age ports

* 50 0011.85be.b2af dynamic Yes 45 Gi8/8

2) sh arp | include 0011.85be.b2af

output =

SZ-JFH-F00-DTE1#sh arp | include 0011.85be.b2af

Internet 9 0011.85be.b2af ARPA Vlan50

Show arp will only list the IP entry for the host if a host sends some traffic to switch ip or vice versa. If the host is talking to some other host in the same vlan and is not using the gateway then it will not be easy to locate the IP address using the " show arp " command.

You can use a free tool " ccgetmacaddress" which will tell you the " MAC-IP " or "IP-MAC" binding on you network.
