Hi
I have a cisco 2801 + PVDM16 +VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1
Its running a very recent version of IOS.
I can't issue the controller command in configuration mode in order to configure the E1 PRI.
Any ideas ?

issue the "card type" command?
The VWIC2 cards are different from the first gen cards in that you have to give that command for them to be recognised.
card type {e1 | t1} slot subslot
