Unanswered Question

I am researching my purchase of router simulators. Looks like the two biggest players are BOSON vs RouterSim.

Does any one have experience with both to give their personel recommendation

I have this problem too.

a) download winpcap 4.0 and install it.

b) download dynagen and install it

c) put IOS for a a supported platform in directory

d) edit one of the file

image = \Program Files\Dynamips\images\MATCH-YOUR-IOS

npe = npe-400

ram = 160

console = 2001

f0/0 = LAN 1

model = 7200

console = 2006

f0/0 = LAN 1

s3/0 = R3 s3/0

console = 2003

f0/0 = LAN 2

I have used both of them, but after going for the first of my CCNA exams, i throw them away. There is some lack of functionality in them. One was the lack of passive-interface cmd, etc. You want be able to actually see, what's going on on the switches and routers, what if you plug in wrong cable, snap it out, config register changes, + +

All those debug commands! they are VERY important to know and use, so that you could actually see, what's going on.

My advice, drop sim's, by real equippment on ex e-bay, etc. You would get so much broader, and practially experience.

Agreed to Etienne ,nobody should use other simulators for routing labs and additionally you cannot do some switching labs on dynamips.

Here are my some few cents for on that gr8 software, hopfully it will help for newusers.

Thanks Etienne and Faisal for the technical info about the software.

Man, this topic just got more interesting.

Never knew, ppl were using simulators for CCIE as well.

Always thought of the road to CCIE to be longer.

Thanks guys!!

Any links where you can download IOS's???
