We just bought a 11506. I have a few questions

- One requirement we have is that I need to direct https web requests to the CSS public IP and then have it redirect that web request over tcp 80 to one of our internal web servers.

Do I need to purchase on SSL module for this ?

Can someone direct me to the support link for the 11506. Looking for setup and support docs.

Cheers

Dave

In order to do SSL offloading you need to buy SSL module CSS5-SSL-K9.

You can find lots of CSS config examples

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/contnetw/ps792/prod_configuration_examples_list.html

& Supporting documents at

Iftekhar, i have one question please,

i have a customer and he needs SSL offloading with CSS 11501 box, as i know there is no ssl module on that box, so it's possible on software ssl ? or what is the recommendation ?

thanks,

hasan

Hello Hasan,

If the CSS does not have SSL module, you cannot do SSL offloading. But you can do SSL load balancing, just passing trough, and the server will do the SSL termination.

There is no way to do SSL offloading in CSS?s 11500 series without SSL module.

Recommendations? mmm... that would be a kind of hard, since the 11501 does not have slots and we cannot buy a SSL module for that CSS, in the other the CSS 11503 or 11506 does, and we can buy a SSL module.

In your case the server will need to do the SSL offloading.

hi Iftekhar,

i was checking on cisco site after you told me i cannt do ssl offloading on my CSS 11501, but i found this bulletin.

Hassan~

It was not me who responded back to your enquiry. The response was correct for older version of CSS 11501.It was kind of a universal truth that you couldnt install SSL Module in 11501 and hence ssl offloading was not possible.

Now there are two versions of 11501. CSS 11501 & 11501S-C. CSS 11501S-C supports both Compression and SSL termintaion.

I havent worked on these new 11501s but Cisco's website clearly says that you can terminate/offload SSL using 11501S-C.

Hope it helps
