Dear Devang,

you can decompressing the IOS image on unix/linux by using this command "[email protected]$ unzip -p c3640-js-mz.124-10a.bin > c3640-js-mz.124-10a.image"

Also you decompressing the IOS image on windows systems by using WINRAR, Open WINRAR program then selecte the IOS image, then click one the image tiwce, then extract the file with .BIN exe some where, then to to such place and rename the .BIN file to be .image.

Regarding the above error, just decompressing the IOS image and make sure the RAM you located for the router is big enough (you can cehck the RAM needed for one IOS image by www.cisco.com/go/fn)

Dear All,

It's very simple by it's just steps if any missing the sim report such errors:

Here is a breif about how to use it:

1-Install Wincap / then install dynagen

2-for window users dynagem files will located in the below path (C:\Program Files\Dynamips\sample_labs) also there is a very usful file in such path called "all_config_options.txt" try to open this file by internet explorer to know how to use different router series and how to connect interfaces for each type of router

3-place all your IOS images in one place to refear to next time in the configuration file (.Net file)

4-open a new text file and place your topology configurations there then replace the file ext by .net (topology.txt --> topology.net) make sure the widnows not hidden files ex.

5-Let create asmile topology with 3 3725 routers + 1 Switch and 1 Frame-relay switch

Here is the config:

-----

autostart = false

[localhost]

#Define router platforms#

#specify router RAM- Take care of running IOS#

ram = 128

#Specifiy the your image path followed by image name#

image = c:\images\c3725-ipbase-mz.123-9b.image

#here i will add network module with 4 serials in slot1#

Dear,

there is an perfect simulator specially for CCIE lab practic, it's only run 2600, 2600, 3700, 7200, but also you can solve the switching issue by using 3600 with NM-16E interface which provide you with 16 switchport supporintg trunking and alot of switching stuff.

Check and download the software from the below URL and feel free to ask me about any config related to such sim, as i'm alredady use it for my lab preparation.

Hey Dewang,

Nice to see back in Netpro.

The dynamips simulator is by far the best simulator i have experienced.

I have simulated quite a few topologies with it. Let me know if you need any .net files for the simulation and i will be happy to share them..

Mounir, would you be able to share any .net files simualting the NM-16EW. I have never been able to successfully simulate it

I just downloaded and installed it. Then I also downloaded the Cisco IOS image files for 7200 and 3640 in to the same folder. And the I created two batch files as follows:

7200.bat:

dynamips-wxp -t npe-400 -p 1:PA-A1 -p 2:PA-8T -p 3:PA-4E -p 4:PA-POS-OC3 -p 6:PA-FE-TX -P 7200 c7200-spservicesk9-mz.124-11.T1.bin

3600.bat:

dynamips-wxp -p 1:NM-1E -p 2:NM-4E -p 3:NM-1FE-TX -p 4:NM-4T -P 3600 c3640-ik9o3s-mz.124-13b.bin

Works great.....

Dear Nrayan,

With pleasure

here is a smiple file that created by myself, and use it for my CCIE LAB prep.

In the below configurations, i'm using 2 routers (3725) and one 3640 instead of 3350 switch.

-------------------

autostart = false

[localhost]

ram = 128

image = c:\images\c3725-adventerprisek9-mz.124-13a.image

slot1 = NM-4T

ram = 128

slot0 = NM-16ESW

idlepc = 0x60a614b8

model = 3725

F0/0 = sw1 f0/1

S1/0 = FR1 1

idlepc = 0x60a60808

F0/0 = sw1 f0/2

S1/0 = FR1 2

model = 3640

Feel free to contact me about configurations like that, i like to play with such stuff.

mounir,

if its possible then will you please show me how to create the connectivity... i means how to connect the router virtualy with each other like topology diagram... will you please explain it in more detail... as well as how many routers and switches i can use for the same...

mounir.mohamed Thu, 04/26/2007 - 15:45

Dear devang_etcom,

Sure, make sure that you already configured the main platforms and interfaces

ram = 128

image = c:\images\c3725-ipbase-mz.123-9b.image

slot1 = NM-4T

ram = 128

slot0 = NM-16ESW

image = c:\images\c3640-js-mz.124-10a.image

Router connections:

Well in the below config file we will connected R1 with R2 Direct Fastethernet interface

-------------

model = 3725

F0/0 = R2 f0/0

model = 3725

---------

In the second below example we will connected R1 and R2 using Serial interfaces.

--------------

model = 3725

S1/0 = R2 S1/1

model = 3725

In the 3rd below example we will connect R1 with R2 by Fastethernet interfaces over SW1.

----------------

model = 3725

F0/0 = sw1 f0/1

model = 3725

F0/0 = sw1 f0/2

model = 3640

In the last example we will connect R1 and R2 over Frame-relay switch, R1 will be connected to FRSW on port 1 using DLCI 102 and R2 connected to the FRSW on port 2 using dlci 201

--------------------------

model = 3725

S1/0 = FR1 1

model = 3725

S1/0 = FR1 2

1:102 = 2:201

beleive me it will give you great and different Throughput if you decompressed the image, i was running 3 routers maximum on my laptop (withou decompressed the image)but after decompressed the IOS image and use the idlepc values i got 6/7 routers per time, so just try to test it.

I didn't receive any mail from you!!

Yes it is just that simple, create it via notepad and rename it to .net and just double click it after loading the dynamips service.

mounir.mohamed Sun, 04/29/2007 - 23:13

Regarding the server shutdown issue, Make sure that you dynamips server, the second issue usually happen due to low memory assigned to the router instance (memory lower than the IOS needs) or lack of PC memory which is solved by decompressing the image.
