Problems adding VLAN on a 3750 switch

I'm trying to add a new VLAN on a 3750 switch that already has two VLAN's setup. I'm using the following commands, but get the error at the bottom.

PELONSWT02(config-vlan)#name PRTRVLAN

PELONSWT02(config-vlan)#^Z

VLAN 1003 parent VLAN missing

APPLY VLAN changes failed.

I currently have the 3750 cluster set as a VTP server on V2.

If I 'sh vlan' on the switch I get the following:

PELONSWT02#sh vlan

Hello,

This error message indicates that one or more switches in the network do not support V2

mode.

A VTP version 2-capable network device can operate in the same VTP domain as a network

device running VTP version 1 provided VTP version 2 is disabled on the VTP version

2-capable network device (VTP version 2 is disabled by default).

Do not enable VTP version 2 on a network device unless all of the network devices in the

same VTP domain are version 2-capable. When you enable VTP version 2 on a network device,

all of the version 2-capable network devices in the domain enable VTP version 2.

VTP Configuration Guidelines and Restrictions:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/12_1e/swconfig/v

tp.htm#wp1029449

Please do "no vtp v2-mode" under "config t" mode and then create the vlan.Basically idea is to configure all the switch to V2 mode if they support it or change the VTP mode to V1 as few of the switches donot support it.

HTH,Please rate if it does.

If I set to VTP mode1, will it have any knock on effect to my existing prod network?

I've checked all the network devices in the community and they all appear to be VTP2... Am I right in saying that I only need VTP2 for token ring?

Hi there,

What is the VLAN number that you are trying to add.

BR,

Mohammed Mahmoud.

Friend,

I think you are trying to add a VLAN with a VLAN ID of 1003.

You cannot use VLANs from 1001 - 1005. These are reserved vlans

Try configuring a different vlan number and check

HTH, rate if it does

Narayan

I'm trying to configure VLAN's 20, 30 and 40...

Please do as suggested in my earlier post and let us know if that works.
