Hi:
Reviewing Cisco 871 info, I don?t see 802.1Q support over "WAN port". It supports 802.1Q over the four LAN ports, but it says nothing about WAN port.

Hi Friend,
By WAN port you mean serial port? dot1q is lan protocol and not a wan protocol.
What is your requirement?

Have you ever seen an 871? The ethernet port to connect the ISP broadband modem is labeled WAN, coherently with the industry standard for this class of device.
The question is valid. Unfortunately I don't have an 871 to try that.

I am talking about the "10/100BASE-T RJ-45 WAN Fast Ethernet port" (FE4), please see figure 1-3 in http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_fix/85x87x/857hig/eng/857over.htm
