Router/Firewall for 10mbit/100mbit burstable Ethernet

We will be moving a couple servers to a collocation facility in a few weeks. The facility is providing us a 10mbit Ethernet connection with the capability to burst to 100mbit. We will be hosting an internet application; FTP; and perhaps VPN for our own remote connectivity.

Can anyone recommend a cost effective router and/or firewall that will meet our 10mbps connection and perhaps bursting to at least 30mbps, that we may also upgrade in the future for more bandwidth?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Actually, anything in the 28xx series would do. Many people like to use 38xx, but it should be strictly necessary in your case.

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!

jcx000001 should also bear in mind that enabling any services on the router (NAT, QoS policies, firewall etc.) will impact throughput on the router. 10-30Mbps should be easily achievable on a 2811 or above with no services.

If services are enabled then all bets are off and you'll need to load test in a lab environment to find out what performance you can achieve with the given config, allowing necessary margin for enabling of other services or increasing complexity of the existing ones.
