Cannot Access 3620 via Console or Aux Port

I have tried all speeds from 1200 to 115200 to accees the port. I can see activity on the router on FA 0/0, EiGRP broadcasts, the ip address of the interface, even the version of IOS but I don't have the password or a printed config. I need access to console port and am willing to wipe the entire config etc and start from scratch. Any suggestions? I have also noted a jumper inside labeled reset but not been able to find any Cisco docs on what this jumper is for?

Thanks,

Rich

First ensure that your cable/terminal emulator works on another Cisco device

Second, if possible, connect to the console and reboot the device, you should see something if the console is working.

If you can, interupt the boot and check the config register, this can change/set the baud rate.

Last you don't need to wipe the configuration, you can perform password recovery, again by setting the config register.

hello rich

what do u get on console ? no messages at all ?? is this a working router ? you have to go on console and break the password, no other go now !! if console messages arent comin its also worthwhile to check ur hyperterminal.. u can also probably use some other software like securecrt and see if you are able to get any message....

do let us know...

Raj

I get no messages at all via hyperterminal. The router boots, lights flash green as it boots. I see it sending out broadcasts, EIGRP info, etc when capturing packets connected via Xover cable/laptop via ethernet 0. I will try securecrt.

It looks like the connector was dirty? I verified my laptop/cable then came back to this router and now it is working... and I had tried it multiple times switching the cable back and forth between the two ports.

Thanks for your response.
