Hi,

I have the followin scenario ; please input.

I have HeadOffice (HO) and Sales Office (SO), we have one Wireless Link between them.

At HQ we have 4500 layer3 Switch and 3640 Router.

At SO we have 2600 router.

HO[4500---3640]---WAN-LINK---[2600--3550]SO

We wil have another WAN-link between HO && SO as redundancy

I am planning to terminate the link at HO on 4500 and at SO on 2600

please advice what configuration would be required to have redundancy [HSRP]

Hi,

If I understand correctly your topology, you only have one router at each site. So, you won't be able to use HSRP. It is only used when there is more than one router on a LAN.

Hope this helps, please rate all useful posts using the scrollbox below!

Hi,

Please can you verify to us that at HQ ,you are planning to terminate 2nd WAN link on 4500 switch?

Regards,

YES.

I am planning to terminate the 2nd WAN link on 4500Multilayer Switch.

Please help.

And how you routing, I mean using static routes or dynamic routing.?

static routing as of now.

I am not sure what should be my standby IP.

The following is the IP on my network.

HO[4500--3640]--WAN----[2600--3550]SO {{ W A N #1 }}

Ip of 4500 : VLAN 150 define with ip 10.1.1.1)

IP of 3640 : 10.1.1.2 ( connected to 4500 )

IP of 3640 : 192.168.100.1 (WAN connected to 2600 - SO )

IP of 2600 : 192.168.100.2 (WAN Connected to 3640 - HQ ]

IP of 2600 : 192.168.1.2 [connected to 3550]

IP of 3550 : 192.168.1.1 [connected to 2600]

For the new WAN link which would be terminated on 4500 the IP range would be

HO[4500]--WAN----[2600--3550]SO {{ W A N #2 }}

IP of 4500 : VLAN 99 configured as 10.5.5.1

IP of 2600 : 10.5.5.2 [ connected to 4500 at HO ]

AT HO the defaul-gateway for users is 192.168.5.100, this is the IP address of 4500 at HO.

Based on the above information please can you help in configuring HSRP

I think the best solution will be to add another router and terminate 2nd wan on it. and leave ur 4500 switch between and connect these two router's lan, create hsrp here and change ur user defaul gateway pointing toward this hsrp address.

or

leave ur default g/w for users as is, and add static route on 4500 wan link with higher admin distance,so if ur wan link fail with 3640 ,it will bring 4500 wan link as primary from backup.

Regards,

So what configuration would be required on 4500 and 3640

please help
