Retaining Caller ID info when IP phone is forwarded to an outside number

We are running CCM 4.3.1 with an 2811 MGCP gateway. We have 1 PRI coming in with DIDs. A user at the end of the day forwards the main number to their cell phone. When a call gets forwarded to the cell phone the caller id reads a number from the Cisco phone system and not the original calling number. They would like to see the original caller id of the outside caller that called in. We replaced an old AT&T Key system which had been running for 20 years. They were able to retain the original caller id on that system. This is very critical for them because the callers don't always leave a callback number, and they need to return those calls. Is it possible to retain original caller id all the way through on an extension that is set to forward all to an outside line?

Yes, it is possible but requires a few things.

First, you'll need your telco to remove any restrictions on the number you send out to them. You will be sending the original caller's number down the line which they probably won't like, but is legal.

Then create two route patterns - one for regular calls, one for calls that will be forwarded. For the one that will be used for forwarding, make sure the calling number is not modified.

Create a separate Calling Search Space that includes any Partitions that users can forward to, and include the one with the route pattern above. Set this as the "Forward All" Calling Search Space on each phone's DNs
