Anyone experience the error, java.lang.NullPointer when trying to load Cisco View Device Manager on a 6509-E?

Running: 122-18.SXF8

Tried both CVDM version: cvdm-c6500-1.1.tar & cvdm-c6500-1.1_K9.tar

Have Java installed: 1.4.2_06

Hi.

I believe you're hitting a known bug:

CSCsc10956 - CVDM 1.1 does not work with 12.2(18)SXF

Release-note: CVDM 1.1 does not work after logging in on a Sup720 running IOS version 12.2(18)SXF within a 6500 switch.

I do see that there may be a patch for this issue, for which you would need to open a TAC case to obtain. Otherwise there is the following workaround:

Workaround: Downgrade the IOS software to 12.2(18)SXD3.

HTH,

-Joe

I'm finding this same problem. Months after this bug has been posted. I'm new to the 6500 so I am unsure about the pros and cons of downgrading to this older version of IOS.

I'm installing a brand new 6509E. Does anyone have any advice on this?
