Transcoding Conferencing

Answered Question
May 5th, 2007

Hi,

i have a scenario with a WAN and of course a need for G.729 codec. This is Ok, the things gets complicated when we have Auto Attendant or CUE where they need G.711. I have enabled Transcoding for each location (using the WAN Router, which is as well the VG)

I have CCM centralized cluster, the problem shows when the customer needs conferencing over the wan, i haven't tried it yet, but i can feel the problem is coming: in fact i have two MRGL for each location containing its own transcoder and have a software conference (means restricted to G.711) if i tried to add a hardware conference i cannot do it as it needs to use the same name or IP as i already use in the transcoding. Also the same goes for the router SCCP configuration.

In summary can i use the same router to do the conferencing and transcoding if yes please send me the config example.

sorry for this long explenation :-)

Good day

I have this problem too.

Here's an example config with transcoding, conferencing, and a router software MTP on the same ISR router. This config will not work on older non-ISR routers, but you can still use transcoding and conferencing at the same time with those routers with a different config.

sccp local GigabitEthernet0/0.80

sccp ccm 10.120.173.240 identifier 2 version 4.1

sccp ccm 10.120.173.241 identifier 1 version 4.1

sccp

!

sccp ccm group 10

bind interface GigabitEthernet0/0.80

associate ccm 2 priority 2

associate ccm 1 priority 1

associate profile 20 register 3825-CNF

associate profile 21 register 3825-XCD

associate profile 22 register 3825-MTP

!

dspfarm profile 21 transcode

codec g711ulaw

codec g711alaw

codec g729r8

maximum sessions 12

associate application SCCP

!

dspfarm profile 20 conference

codec g711ulaw

codec g711alaw

codec g729r8

maximum sessions 4

associate application SCCP

!

dspfarm profile 22 mtp

codec g711ulaw

maximum sessions software 10

associate application SCCP

!

Hope this helps.

In addition to previous answer, I found effective to reduce range of supported codec for conference (i.e. G711), and support also G729 (as in the example) for only the transcoder.

This allows more sessions to be supported by a single DSP for conferences (max 8). Transcoders will be used automatically (running on other DSP chips) if a conference participant is calling w/ G729.
