Hi,

To connect a PC to a router via Ethernet, there are 2 options, either use a crossover cable to connected them directly via the Ethernet ports, or use a switch between them and use straight cables.

As for connecting a PC to a router via the com (serial) port, you'll have to connect the serial com port of the PC to the router console port via the RJ-45-to-DB-9 cable, and then use a terminal program such as Windows Hyper Terminal, or the famous SecureCRT to do terminal access to the router.

Configure your terminal program like this;

* Speed - 9600

* Data Bits - 8

* Parity - none

* Stop bits - 1

* Flow Control - none

HTH, please do rate if it does help,

Mohammed Mahmoud.

Ya, what is this secure CRT , and can i know wheter there is any document provided for this basic elements

Hi,

SecureCRT is the famous and most commonly used terminal emulation software (it is more advanced than the Windows built in Hyper Terminal), it supports SSH1, SSH2, Telnet, Telnet/SSL, RLogin, Serial, and TAPI protocols, you'll need it to console access your router.
