hi
i have seen the unnumbered interface being used in a number of occassions but i cant really understand why,i mean if one can just configure an ip address why not just use an ip address,why do we really have to configure an ip unnumbered interface.

Hi Friend,
AFAIK the ip unnumbered interface can "borrow" the IP address of another interface already configured on the router, which conserves network and address space.
The ip unnumbered command works on point-to-point interfaces only.
Also there are some disadvantages that the unnumbered interface suffers from is that it is unavailable for remote testing and management.

IP unnumbered was really a configuration technique that always has supporters and naysayers. With the advent of ubiquitous NAT, has lost much of its appeal. Still, in some cases is useful, example large dialer configurations, and few other cases.
