T.37 On-ramp Faxing details

Unanswered Question

I have used the T.37 on-ramp faxing before for clients, but never used the wildcards to make it easier on myself (or I thought). Has anyone implemented this using the '$d$' wildcard to send fax-emails to the server?

According to this and the traces that I have seen you have to create email accounts with 'FAX=xxxxxxxxxx' where the x's notate your incoming dialed number (could be 10 or less digits). But the point is that my client says that he cannot use the '=' character in an email alias. Has anyone found a way around this?

thanks

Hi,

I cannot really help with your question (apparently "=" is allowed per rfc in the local part of email), but since I was researching the subject, wanted to ask you, which platform / IOS are you using?

All the documentation references a builtin fax_on_vfc_onramp_app that is not present the the latest images for 2800 ISR.

Thanks!

Hi and thanks.

I've downloaded app-faxmail-onramp.2.0.1.3.zip but it does not define the fax_on_vfc_onramp_app service. I can configure that under a mmoip DP, but I think it will not work ? I do not see any other relevant file in the TCLware page.

What do you see doing

sh call application voice summary

on your 2811 ?

It does take a reboot before the service is available, I assume you have done this.

Just as a side note:

Cisco recommends that you dedicate a router for offramp/onramp faxing, as the rendering of the fax into tiff format and back can consume a lot of memory and CPU. Same with Unity server. If you have lot of users using this feature with Unity, you may as well buy a third party fax server like Rightfax or Cisco fax server (Captaris).
