Cat 6500 Supervisors

I recently got a second supervisor engine for my 6500 core switch. My original installed sup currently has CAT OS and the new one is loaded with IOS. If I install the second sup with the switch running, will the primary (original) sup download the CAT OS to the new sup? If not, what do I need to do to? I want to continue running the CAT OS on both sups.

Thanks,

Neal

Hi,

Why don't you migrate your CatOS to IOS:

NOTE: The conversion can't be done automatically by just inserting both Sup simultaneously.

Hi Neal

Unfortunately the sup will not automatically convert the IOS back to Cat OS, you will need to perform a manual conversion.

Please see below link for a walkthrough.

Hope this helps

Hi Neal,

If your existing sup is already running CATOS and you install the ne sup having IOS into the same chassis it will never download CATOS from the primary active sup.

For CATOS to be downloaded it is mandatory that the secondary sup must also run CATOS no matter what release but should be CATOS.

CATOS and Native IOS are complete different OS and are not compatible.

The only workaround is convert your new sup having IOS back to CATOS in some spare chassis as it is not possible to convert it without downtime.

This lin kwill help you converting Native IOS back to CATOS
