CAT6509 compatibility with Line Cards

Having some compatability issues with a CAT6509 and some specific new line cards. The CAT6509 in question has WS-C6509 chassis, WS-SUP720-BASE sup engine, running in hybrid mode (CATOS 8.5(1), IOS 12.2(17D)SXB10).

I have no problem with classic cards like WS-X6416-GBIC (16 port fiber module). Using this card, I can connect with no problem (trunking, spanning tree, etc.) to CAT4506 switches upstream.

When I use a newer generation cards (WS-X6704-10GE) I have problems with basic connection (i.e ping) to IP devices on the CAT4506 host.

When I move the X6704-10GE card to another CAT6509 everything works fine. The only difference is the other CAT6509 is a WS-6509-E chassis and WS-SUP720-3B sup engine. This CAT6509 is also running hybrid and has same CATOS/IOS version of problem CAT6509.

I have search CISCO.COM top to bottom, but have not found any Field Notices similiar to my issue.

Wondering if there is some known issue with my type of WS6509 and new generation line cards.

Hello,

You need at least a SUP720B to run the 6704 card.
