How to block routing on a switch

Hi

I heard that its possible to prevent switch ports from allowing routing protocols to run through it. Does any one know the command for this? I'm going to apply this to a 3750 series E switch?

Thanks

Dan

Hi,

juz type "no ip routing" it disable the routing.

hope this helps.

rate this post if ur satisfied.

I don't think that's what Dan is asking for, routing information can pass through layer 2 switches too. I would really like to hear some solution but i don't think its possible to do what Dan is asking for.

I have not done it (and am not entirely clear why you would want to do it) but I wonder if you could do this with VACL.

Hi Dan

I agree with Rick in that i would have thought you could apply a VACL per interface.

Interestingly enough another approach could be to block unknown broadcast and multicast traffic on the switch ports. As IGP's generally send out routing updates with either multicast or broadcast this could effectively stop routing updates being sent out. Of course it could also break any number of other things so it would need careful testing.
