GSR Crash - ACL

Does anyone have any theories why removing and re-applying an ACL would cause a GSR to crash?

We had an incident earlier when a relatively short ACL (less than 200 lines) was removed and then re-applied with some modifications which then caused our GSR to hang.

The access list was applied globally with the 'ip recieve access-list' command.

Any ideas would be appreciated

I haven't personally used the GSR myself and not familiar with the 'ip receive access-list' command but it appears that command applies the ACL rule.

In general it's a good practice to remove any commands that applies the ACL before making any changes to the access list itself to avoid any confusion on the router's part which can result in stalling or crashing the router. This would be more relevant if the router happens to be handling lot of traffic or a high end router like GSR.
