Hi all, can anyone tell me why we would use these, is it so we could utilise 2 routers rather than one, for 2 different lans ?

This would be done for load sharing purpose. As you would know in the HSRP config the load (traffic) is passing through only one router at any given time. But in MHSRP you could send one lan traffic through one of the active routers and another throught the other active router. You achieve load sharing(not load balancing).
