Hi Kitten,

I believe you have sup 2 msfc2.

The MSFC2 does contain ECC memory protection, however there are memory locations where parity is checked but single bit errors cannot be corrected. Below are some error messages that would indicate a parity error:

MISTRAL_TM_DATA_PAR_ERR_REG_MASK_HI: 42

Error condition detected: TM_NPP_PARITY_ERROR

Error condition detected: SYSAD_PARITY_ERROR

Error condition detected: SYSDRAM_PARITY

If these error messages were logged just once then it could be a single event error and the MSFC2 should be monitored. Can you check in the logs and confirm the same.

If you are getting this very frequently then you may need to get your sup replaced.

Hi Ankur,

yes, i am using sup2+ , this error msg just once, but what is the action taken ?

kindly guide me on this, your reply will be highly appreciated.

regards,

Kitten

Hi Kitten,

If you have seen this error just once then it could be transient issue or single event error so I will recommend to monitor MSFC and see if you get this error again.

Nothing to worry much if this is just one time occurance. If it happens again and keep continuing then you may need to get it replaced. As of now just monitor the same.

Hi Kitten ,

Meaning of the error messages is below.

%MISTRAL-3-ERROR : Error condition detected: [chars]

The most common errors from the Mistral ASIC on the MSFC are TM_DATA_PARITY_ERROR, SYSDRAM_PARITY_ERROR, SYSAD_PARITY_ERROR, and TM_NPP_PARITY_ERROR. Possible causes of these parity errors are random static discharge or other external factors.

Recommended Action: If the error message is only seen once (or rarely), the recommendation is to monitor the switch syslog to confirm the error message was an isolated incident. If these error messages are reoccurring, open a case with the Technical Assistance Center through the Internet at http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/front.x/case_tools/caseOpen.pl, or contact your Cisco technical support representative and provide the representative with the information that you have gathered. Attach the following information to your case in nonzipped, plain-text (.txt) format: the output of the show logging and show tech-support commands and your pertinent troubleshooting logs.
