Speed / Duplex Issues with Cisco 6513

Hi,

I have one cisco 6513 in production with WS-6148-GE-TX modules running on 12.2(17)SXF7 IOS and some HP servers with one GB NIC cards. Both the sides are auto negotiation is confugured but still its not taking 1000 Mb full duplex. It's self taking 100M FD(full duplex)/ 100M HD(half duplex) and the states are changing intermittently.

Please share the info if anybody has any updates.

thanks a lot in advance.

Hi,

The IEEE 802.3ab autonegotiation protocol manages the switch settings for speed (10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, and 1000 Mbps, excluding SFP module ports) and duplex (half or full). There are situations when this protocol can incorrectly align these settings, reducing performance (although if set to autonegotiation on both sides it should work properly). To rest your self, configure them manually 1000/Full.

HTH, please do rate all helpful replies,

Mohammed Mahmoud.

Hi,

Thanks for your valueable inputs,

Actually when we are manually doing hard coded 1000/full setttings, the interface doesn't come up.

After setting auto/auto at both the ends, it works but intermittently changing the staes to 1000/full; 100/full; 100/half; 10M /full.

The switch ports are connected to HP servewrs(Model:ML570G4)

Thanks & Regards,

Sanjay Pahuja

Hi,

Have your manually hard coded it to 1000/full on both sides, the switch and the server.

HTH,

Mohammed Mahmoud.

yes..at both the ends but port doesn't come up after doing the hard coded settings to 1000/full. Though when we are doing 100/full hard coded seetings at both the ends , it works with no issues.

Hi

i would recommend u to check the cable.if any of the cable is not terminated properly then this may happen.

Thanks

Mahmood

Hi,

We have checked the same. We have conneceted cat6 cables. They have started working but intermitently, its coming on 100M. We are also suspecting the cables only.

Thanks,

Sanjay.

Agree check the cable gig needs 4 good pairs to run otherwise it wil fall back to 100 meg. Gig uses all 8 wires for transmission.
