Solved: NM-CUE have to be on same router as CME?

Hi everyone. Does the NM-CUE need to be physically installed on the same router running CME 4? Or can these tasks be split among two different routers where one is running NM-CUE/Unity Express and another router running CME?

I have an existing 3640 router I could leave on the LAN. As far as I know this can handle the NM-CUE module. CME 4 won't run on the 3640 of course, but I would just use a 1760. If this isn't an option then I'm looking at a 2811 to run CME and CUE on the same box. This is for a fairly small job. I appreciate any further input.

Hi Mark,

The good news is these can by installed on two separate chassis. The bad news is (as far as I can tell) the NM-CUE is not supported on the 3640. Have a look;

For implementations prior to Cisco CME 3.2 and Cisco Unity Express 2.0, these two components must be collocated in the same router chassis. As of Cisco CME 3.2 and Cisco Unity Express 2.0, this is no longer a requirement. While you should have LAN connectivity between Cisco CME and Cisco Unity Express (and not low-speed WAN links), these two components may now reside in physically different routers.
