Hi Experts,

Just going through my new CCNp switching book, and i see a tip that says that support for ISL has ceased accross all Cisco Catalyst platforms.

Would anyone like to confirm this?

Regards

Stephen

Dear,

Cisco proprietary protocol, and not supported by the 2940 or 2950 series switches, but it's supported on 2924-XL, 2912-XL utilizing 11.(8)SA4 (Enterprise Edition, BUT as far i know now Cisco stop supporting ISL on new IOS relases and new Cisco products also, so i beleive this is reason behind the word you found (Cisco ceased ISL across all devices)

Best Regards,

Mounir Mohamed

Hi,

Check this link for ISL support on Cisco switches:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk389/tk390/technologies_tech_note09186a008017f86a.shtml#topic1

For more information about ISL:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk389/tk390/technologies_tech_note09186a0080094665.shtml

As far as i can say ISL is still available on cisco switches, but it is no more developed.

HTH, please do rate all helpful replies,

Mohammed Mahmoud.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense now. It is still in use, but not being supported.

Thanks

Stephen
