hsrp troubleshooting document

Can any one provide some trouble shooting documents and links :

I have a config like in router 1 and router 2

standby 2 ip 10.x.x.x

standby 2 priority 110

standby 2 preempt

standby 2 track 2

standby 2 track 3

ip sla monitor 10

type dns target-addr x.x.x.x name-server x.x.x.4

ip sla monitor schedule 10 life forever start-time now


track 2 rtr 10


track 3 rtr 10 reachability

It is a failover scenerio.

Say when router 1 fails router 2 does not take over .

What are the troubleshooting steps that I need to follow .

Hi Raj ,

Track rtr command is used for tracking the state of a Cisco IOS IP Service Level Agreements (SLAs) operation , not the router.

Every IP SLAs operation maintains an operation return-code value. This return code is interpreted by the tracking process. The return code may return OK, OverThreshold, and several other return codes. Different operations may have different return-code values, so only values common to all operation types are used.

Two aspects of an IP SLAs operation can be tracked: state and reachability. The difference between these aspects relates to the acceptance of the OverThreshold return code. Table 62 shows the state and reachability aspects of IP SLAs operations that can be tracked.

The following example shows how to configure the tracking process to track the state of IP SLAs operation 2:
