Best way to handle NAT and SIP registration and phones

Answered Question

Hi,

I have a new ITSP provider with SBCs and of course proxies and registrars.

I have CCM 4.x, 5.x and 6.x to use. As far as network gear goes, I have a 2811 (performing T1 MLPPP termination from the provider as well as PAT for outbound internet from the network).

I also have a PIX 515e that I could use if it is better suited for this.

I need to register with my provider (authenticated) for the SIP trunk, but I do not want to put my PBX on the internet obviously.

I have read all about the SIP-UA SBC NAT traversal stuff for an hour as well as the rewrites the PIX is capable of doing.

What is the recommended way of having PBX->NAT->internet->Broadsoft interaction given the equipment I have.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi,

either the router orpix will perform nat for sip without issues. No special configuration is usually necessary. It becoming more and more common to have this kind of setup.

Hope this helps, please rate this post if useful!

Hi Greg,

I am curious, when you said you have CCM 6.x to use, is it beta version? where did you obtained it from?

Thanks
