what about source routing???
Well you need software that will allow you to specify the route you want the packets to take. There are hacker tools out there that allow you to do this in order to try and bypass certain security features.
You can also do it with extended ping on a cisco router. When it asks if you want extended options select yes and when you get down to the option
Loose, Strict, Record, Timsetamp, Verbose
choose Strict and this allows you to specify the route you want the packet to take.
Are you talking about source based routing, if so then this can be done via PBR (Policy based routing), since normal routing using static routes or dynamic routing protocols takes its decision based on the destination, then it is called destination based routing, PBR was introduced to do routing based on source as one of its benefits, and thus called source based routing.
