We have four identically configured Cisco Switches (2950 running 12.1(22)EA2)

One of them has a high CPU (20%) while the rest are 1%. None of them are really doing much, no traffic currently going through them. The one with a high CPU has this process to blame...

While the others are much lower...

Hi

CPU process in switches normally represents STP processing/port processing and LED indicators..

And as per the supporting doc its a normal behavior to have highest percentage of cpu utilisation by these processes..

Hi,

The CPU on the 2950 switch normally runs around 20-40% with no load. The LED processors are usually between 8 and 20% even in a no load situation.

Calhoun LED Process: decoded means that this switch has the Calhoun board, (this is a nick name that the programmers gave it) and that the processor is running at x%. LED is referring to the actual LED's on and in the switch. It has been seen that this does not affect the switch performance.

The Calhoun does a lot of things:

- Updates statistics and error counters in port LED config, to update the blink profile.

- For each port, calculates the next color to be displayed based on the blink profile and the mode.

As I mentioned, this value is seen very often and if the switch is not having any latency issues, it should not cause a problem.

HTH,Please rate if it does.
