In IOS on Cat 6500 we have:
============================
Directory of const_nvram:/
1 -rw- 1416 <no date> vlan.dat
How do we display the file in CatOS?
=====================================
Console> (enable) dir disk0: all
2 -rw- 22138948 Nov 16 2005 04:30:13 cat6000-sup720cvk8.8-4-3.bin

Alphonse,
The CATOS switches save vlan information in the configuration itself and there is no vlan.dat there. The VLAN database was introduced into Cisco IOS for the Catalyst 6500 as a method for immediately saving VTP updates for VTP Clients and Servers. This VLAN database is in the form of a separate file in NVRAM (the vlan.dat file)
There is no VLAN.dat file for hybrid (catOS), backing up your config in NVRAM back ups the vlans configured on the switch - i.e a vtp server that have global VLANs configured on it
HTH,Please rate if it does.
