Multicast across vlans - Catalyst 6k

Sentia NOC

Hi all,

Is it possible to multicast from one public vlan to another?

Setup is:

!

ip multicast-routing

no ip igmp snooping

!

interface Vlan1

description multicast are running here

ip address 1.1.1.x.x.255.0

ip pim sparse-mode

ip igmp static-group 233.62.223.2

ip igmp version 3

ip igmp snooping fast-leave

end

!

interface Vlan2

description I want to watch my multicast stream ***

ip address 2.2.2.x.x.255.0

ip igmp join-group 233.62.223.2

ip igmp version 3

end

!

When i have an ip adress in vlan 1 I can connect fine to the multicast stream - but when I'm in vlan2 I cannot connect.

Regards,

Philip

Hi Philip,

So you have multicast server on vlan 1 and you want to receive multicast traffic on vlan 2 correct?

Can you also configure "pim" under interface vlan 2 and see if that works?

Also can you paste the output of "sh ip mroute" once you configure pim under vlan 2?

Regards,

Ankur

Also make sure the multicast source application generates the multicast stream with a TTL of at lease 2. Otherwise, the router will simply drop the packets.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

I too am having the exact problem. I have added PIM and join group (as per the application), but the vlans fail to see M/cast traffic between them.

Can anyone post some configs that will allow multicasting to work between separate vlans on a 6509 IOS device?

The sh ip mroute output is:-
