We have 600+ IP Communicator devices configured in Call Manager 4.1(3) SR4 and we are trying to put together some utilization data surrounding IP communicator. Is there a way or a tool to gather up information on how often the IP communicator application is used and for what duration.

You mean making calls? you can use the built in CDR (if activated on CCM) to check the call logs. This will show each extenstion and what calls were made to/from it.

If you are looking for packet data, you will need a network sniffer to grab all that data to/from your hub router. (if you are thinking bandwidth, etc)

I am looking to capture how often the device registers to the call manager, when was the last time that it was used, etc. The licenses aren't cheap and if there is an individual who is not using thier IP Communicator, I can use the license elsewhere.

CDR is your best bet on how much the person uses the phone. Just because it registered with callmanager, the person may not even use the phone. If it's idled, with no incoming or outgoing calls, CDR will tell you this.

So if John Doe had IPC loaded on his laptop, tells you that he turns the phone on everyday on his laptop. You look at the CDR records and it shows, John is not even making any calls, incoming or outgoing. it would be safe to say to pull his license. CDR does not lie. It tracks all the calls to and from devices.

If John is using the "Services" of the IPC, you can track a few of those benchmarks in CCM, not by device, but how much each "Service" is being used.
