Hello -

Trying to upload a code to a 3660 router via xmodem and after copy the code to the flash, it comes back with an error -

"Erasing flash at 0x30000000sector erase failed at location 0x30000000, status 0x

20202020.

flash sector will NOT erase...aborting"

I have tried it a couple of times and I am out of options. Please advise.

Thank you.

Hi George,

Happy to know it worked for you.

Now you can erase flash as your router is up with the IOS after the xmodem and then after erase do a copy tftp flash so that image will be loaded on flash as right now it is in DRAM.

Hi GK,

I believe this is hitting a BUG but before I confirm , do you by any chance have the output of "sh flash all"?

Regards,

Ankur

I would also suggest checking and make sure that the flash is well seated and then try the load again.

Hi Rick -

I gave that a shot too...am trying it again.

Hi Ankur -

Unfortunately I did not. Any work around this or shd I try a different code ?

Initially, I was trying to TFTP a 12.4T code to the 3660, when that didn't work, I tried the xmodem procedure and that's when I get to see the error.

Thx

GK

Hi GK,

If this is the bug which I presume is , give a try with this workaround

Workaround:

-----------------

1. Boot from IOS image on PCMCIA card

2. Erase flash SIMM

3. Copy IOS image from PCMCIA card to flash SIMM

OR

1. Invoke xmodem with '-r' option so that IOS code is xmodemed into

RAM and executed.

Hi Ankur -

I tried the xmodem with the -c option. Would that have made a difference ?

My other option is I have to find another 3660 and try to copy the flash image onto the flash card and try to boot..

Giving the -r option a try now.

Hi George,

Can you give xmodem -r a try?

Ankur

Is there a bug alert for the 12.4(13b) code ??

Hi George,

I don't think so. The problem is with Boot ROM version 12.0(6r)T.

Did xmodem -r option worked for you?

Regards,

Ankur

Have the xmodem with -r running....shd take another 10 mins.

The xmodem -r worked.

Thx Ankur for the help. Much appreciated.

I had to revert back to the old code, 12.1(5)T12. The 12.4(13b) gives an error when I try to TFTP it. TFTP protocol error - too large to handle.
