Cheapest Layer 3 switch?

Unanswered Question
May 27th, 2007

Hello,

I am building my lab up for CCNP and was wondering what the lowest level L3 switch is. I believe it is the 3550 but just looking for some confirmation as the BCMSN 4th Ed Ciscopress book mentions the 2950 in Chapter 12, the one dealing with Multi-Layer Switching.

Thanks!

Hi Friend,

2950 is a pure layer 2 switch and does not have any layer 3 capability. The layer 3 switch range starts from 3550 onwards.

BUT 3550 and 2950 both are EOS but if you are just trying to have it for lab form somewhere you are good to go.
