hi

I have a central CM system with 3 remote sites connected over an IP WAN. I want to say only allow 10 calls accross the WAN an no more. what is the best way to do this i.e I can see a g.711 call uses 64K and g.729 uses 8 k do I just need to multiple these by 10 to work out how much bandwidth I need?

You can use Locations based Call Admission Control in CCM to accomplish this. For locations calculations, CCM uses 80k for G.711 calls and 24k for G.729 calls to accomodate overhead. So, if you're using G.729 across the WAN to a particular location and want to allow 10 calls, you would set your locations bandwidth to 240k. Take a look at the following links.

just one other do you use the same codec for and calculation for video calls?

say I set aside 768Kbps of bandwidth for video calls how many could I get accross that?

It depends on the video bandwidth you have configured for your Regions. If you configure 384k for video (which also includes audio), you could get 2 calls. The H.263 video codec uses 320k for video plus audio and overhead. The locations video bandwidth does not include overhead.

after that use Location under CCM Webadmin page to set the bandwith you want.
