Technical term why a older PIX can not send traffic back its own interface?

I know on the new upcoming (Sorry if its already out) ASA software. The device can route back in its interface. For example if you have one interface named "Inside" and traffic from the network went to that interface. The ASA can send the traffic back out "Inside" to the internet network again.

I know this can not be done on a PIX. What is the technical term we use to describe this.
